Glasgow: David Bryce and Sons. One of Bryce's more famous miniature publications. First issued c.1900. Text in Arabic. Copies were often issued to Muslim soldiers fighting in World War I with the Allied forces. With original metal locket complete with inset magnifying glass - designed to be easy to wear around the neck. Book dimensions approx. 2cm x 3cm. Red covers with bright gilt tooling. All edge gilt. First Edition with red cloth boards and intact dust jacket - not price clipped (10s 6d net). No damage or wear to cloth boards, no foxing. Generally the dust jacket is in good condition, however it has has some sunning to spine and to crease joining front cover to fly leaf. Two small closed tears to dust jacket at top of spine max 8mm and corners showing wear and minor loss especially to front right corner also some chipping to jacket at top and base of spine. With half-titles to volumes two and three, bound without half-title to volume one. Previous owners inscription "Catherine Bouverie" (?) at the head of each title page. Bottom four lines of letterpress on F2 recto in volume two faintly printed but legible, original printing fault affecting a few words of letterpress on G8 in volume three, tiny stab marks on three leaves, not affecting letterpress. Some light browning in the text, but overall in excellent condition. Recent period-style binding in quarter black calf, flat spines lettered and banded in gilt, marbled board sides. Contemporary marbling on the edges, in a recent purpose-made slipcase. All Volumes match Jane Austen - David Gilson 1985 & Keynes Jane Austen 1929. (029201) £40,000.00
