The Tale of Peter Rabbit
Illustrated By: Beatrix Potter
Published By: Frederick Warne & Co. 1902 (London)
A fantastic first trade edition, listed as No. 2 in Jane Quinby's Bibliographical Check List. Neat original publisher's dark brown-green boards with a white paper pictorial label pasted to the front; it depicts a charming Peter Rabbit in his blue coat, running to the right. The title is stamped in white to the spine and the front cover, where it is accompanied by the author's name. The characteristic lettering shows a white dot centred in the 'O'. Endpapers have a grey leaf pattern. There are 30 illustrations in colour throughout, which Beatrix herself insisted upon. Condition-wise, there is some inevitable evidence of age: this includes occasional light soiling and spotting, some small holes to the gutter, a contemporary inscription to the front free endpaper, and minor browning to the endpapers. 98pp. Overall, this is a rare and charming little book which continues to hold its value and appeal throughout the years. Ideal for collectors. Please contact us if you would like any more information regarding this copy of the well-loved children's tales.
