Eric Robinson, known as 'Kipper' served in the Royal Navy from 1897 to 1944. He saw active service in China during the Boxer rebellion, in the North Sea and the Dardanelles during World War One and in the Caspian Sea in 1919. He was awarded a Victoria Cross in 1915. Between the wars he commanded a destroyer flotilla and served on the China Station. In 1932 he was retired from the Active list with the rank of Rear-Admiral but in 1939 he returned to service, first as a Commodore of Convoys and then as Naval Officer in Charge at Dundee. This account describes the life and times of this remarkable man.
