Deceased: Together with a glossary, by a student of the same college. To the whole is prefixed the author's life, newly written, and a preface, giving an account of this edition. First Urry edition, original full calf boards and rebacked with new spine and corners. Spine has blind tooled bands and gilt tooled title band. Traces of original gilt edging to boards. New marbled endpapers. Bookplate affixed to fep. Full page engraved portrait frontispiece of Chaucer. Engraved vignette to title page. Full page engraved portrait or Urry follows title page. Additional 27 engraved plates throughout, collated complete, with numerous decorative engraved head and tail pieces. Boards are rubbed and a little scuffed. Surface loss to rear board. Pages are toned, particularly those facing engravings, with foxing throughout. Small scorch mark to page 77. Marginal damp stain to pages 101-108 not affecting text. Otherwise the pages are clean and relatively bright. [52], 626, 81, [1] pp. A lovely complete copy. Urry was the first to assemble and consult original manuscripts for this edition in nearly 150 years. The work was unfinished upon his death and published posthumously. A collectable and important work. Large, heavy book will require extra postage.
