Hardback bound in original royal blue cloth, with black embossed border to boards and pictorial gilt stamped motif to cover. Decorative black embossed and gilt stamped spine. Bevelled edges. All edges gilt. Full colour illustrated frontispiece. Illustrated by 270 engravings on wood. Engravings full page and within the text. Spine a little faded and worn to edges, with split in cloth over hinge to upper spine. A little rubbed and bumped. Cracking to gutter. Prelims foxed. Light spotting throughout, largely marginal, and worse to beginning and end pages. Otherwise clean and still quite bright. Front board is lovely and striking. Overall good condition. Pretty and interesting book.
