Second edition hardback bound in half tan leather with marbled boards. Five raised bands to spine with gilt title and bands. All edges speckled red. New endpapers, owner sticker to ffep. Original free endpapers retained, neat ink inscription to ffep. Engraved vignette to title page. Loose binding label inserted, although possibly this is for a different book. Spine a touch sunned, small scuff marks but minor. Pages are lightly and uniformly toned with faint spotting, occasional shallow edge wear, but are clean and bright considering age. Overall very good condition. v + [viii, unpaginated] + 642 pp. Gilpin (1625-1700) was an English nonconformist minister and physician. At the Restoration he was one of the most prominent religious leaders in the North of England. He had six works published and wrote others. This work was originally published in 1677, this being the second edition of 1735 followed by a new edition in 1867. A scarce work in a smart binding.
