Published By: William Heinemann 1909 (London)

"This little volume is made up from a large number of letters addressed by children to Miss Pauline Chase, when she was playing the part of Peter Pan. Those which display amusing instances of childish orthography are given as they were written and in some instances it has been thought worth while to reproduce them in facsimile." First edition, hardback bound in original yellow cloth with pictorial cover. Bookplate to fep. Two ink inscriptions to ffep dated 1908 and 1953. Colour pictorial frontispiece. Illustrated title page. Illustrations throughout. Cover is rubbed with patches of fading/darkening/water stains. Portion of loss to middle of spine, spine edges a little frayed. Mottling to endpapers. Light marginal and occasional spotting to pages, which are for the most part nice and bright. Overall fair to good condition. 64 pp. From the library of Jeanette Bertha Rutherston (Powell; 1902-1988), a British dancer and editor of the Dancing Times magazine. Book is also inscribed by Rutherston. She is the niece of Albert Rothenstein who illustrated this book. Rothenstein (1881-1953) was the brother of painter Sir William Rothenstein. A sweet book that is scarce, with fascinating provenance.
