Cat's Cradle
Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
Ref. 110742 Edition. First Edition
Published By: Victor Gollancz Ltd 1963 (London)
First edition hardback bound in publisher's original red cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Original printed dust jacket, unclipped. Shelf wear to jacket, particularly top edge. Jacket covered by previous owner in clear plastic, hard to remove so we didn't for fear of damaging it. Plastic a little soiled in places but jacket underneath seems bright. Small sticker to spine. Bookseller sticker to fep, remnants of library plate to ffep, pen and pencil inscriptions to endpapers. Library stamp to copyright page and to final page. Text block edge is toned, pages are a touch toned to the edges. Occasional faint spotting, otherwise clean. Overall a good copy that has been well read. 231 pp. Vonnegut's fourth novel, which was received well for the most part despite being banned in a couple of states. Satirically exploring the effects of technology, religion, and the arms race, 'ice-nine' originated in this work. Author Theodore Sturgeon said of it: "this is an annoying book and you must read it."
