Ref. 111037   Edition. First Edition

Published By: Francis Griffiths 1908 (London)

First edition hardback bound in original blue cloth with red border and gilt lettering. Binding somewhat rubbed, edges bumped, small stain to lower front board, a few faded marks, splits over hinge, cup ring to rear board. Spotting to text block edge. Damp stain to edge of fep. Missing ffep. Spotting throughout, largely marginal and to the first and last pages. Pages lightly toned but for the most part clean. Overall fair to good condition. 324 + ii pp. A rare work indeed, with no auction records and only six copies recorded in institutions worldwide. An intriguing book, rare in the true sense of the word. In researching this book I found an article in The New Age (London) vol. 4 no. 6 in which author Arthur James responds to criticism of his work, and the accusation that he has based 'Dottisglade's' on Spottiswoode's.
