'A painter's record of the places he visited while in search of material for his professional work'. The book is split into two sections; the first focuses on the city of Venice and its environs whilst the latter features the hill towns of Tuscany, including Siena and San Giminiano. Signed and numbered Limited Edition - 127/250. Vellum, with gilt to top edge of textblock and some pages untrimmed to fore edge and bottom. Features pictorial endpapers and original captioned tissue guards to accompany 26 tipped-in, beautifully-coloured plates. Ex Libris bookplate to front pastedown labelled 'Julian Phillips'. Small slits to front and back boards indicating former silk ties - these are subtle and in line with decoration. External condition is as follows: beautifully bright gilt adorning a detailed front board, top right corner slightly bumped. Spine again bright gilt, slight marking to extremities but undamaged and featuring lovely illustration. Back board in excellent condition with only slight rubbing to corners. Boards are warped, curving upward toward edge. Internal condition is as follows: Heavy foxing to pastedown, feps, edition page, frontispiece (plate unaffected), title page. Internals are largely unaffected and cleanly printed. Overall, a handsome, heavily decorated vignette of Italy in good condition.
