Very rare, only 5 copies known worldwide. 1855 alphabet book of stunning Victorian illustrations in captioned pen-and-ink by mysterious artist Rev. George Liddell Johnston similar to Henry Holliday's classic illustrations for Lewis Carroll's The Hunting Of The Snark. Bound in half leather with a bright gilt title on green cloth, fine gilt bordering, and floral motif to the spine. Leather worn and rubbed, particularly on the spine, hinges slightly lose with minor cracking at bottom. Pages are clean, drawings still vivid and clear, with light foxing.
