Published By: Bickers and Son 1894 (London)

Edited, with a Scrupulous Revision of the Text, by Charles and Mary Cowden Clarke. Beautifully rebound in stunning green leather with gilt tooling to boards, creating decorative margins. Gilt crest of Stamford Endowed Schools to centre of front board; this book was given as a prize to a student of the Schools, as a neat hand-written inscription to the page preceding the half-title page shows.  Gilt title to spine, also highly decorative, which also has five raised bands. Slight darkening to spine as a result of exposure to the sun, but the contrast between the boards and spine is not at all stark. Light rubbing to bottom extremities as a result of shelf wear. Gilt edges. Marbled endpapers. Some foxing to prelims; noticeable but fairly standard for a book of this vintage. Frontispiece depicts the Bard himself, protected by an original tissue guard. Some small patches of foxing throughout the book, but these are minor enough to be negligible, and the contents are generally clean and bright. Overall very good; a stunning book, ideal for an alum of the Stamford Endowed Schools to preserve as a memento of their schooldays. lxi + 1002pp
