First edition hardback bound in original maroon cloth with black embossed decorative border to cover and spine. Gilt title to spine. Ink inscription to half title and top of title page. Binding is rubbed with shelf wear to edges and particularly over hinge. A few scratches. Spine edges quite bumped with a few nicks. Cracking to gutter visible to endpapers and centre of text block. Binding starting but sound. Endpapers a little grubby. Pages have toning to edges and light spotting occasionally but are otherwise clean. Overall good condition. iii + 471 pp.
