Ref. 111182   Edition. Seventh Edition

Published By: Printed by J. Macock, and M. Flesher, for R. Royston 1684 (London)

'... The First Part, containing The Life of Christ, written by Jer. Taylor, late Lord Bishop of Down and Connor. The Second, Containing The Lives of the Apostles, with an Enumeration, and some Brief Remarks upon the first Successours in the Five Great Apostolical Churches, by William Cave, D.D. Chaplain in Ordinary to His Majesty. By whom also is added an Apparatus, or Discourse Introductory to the whole Work, concerning the Three Great Dispensations of the Church, Patriarchal, Mosaical, and Evangelical.' [sic]. Stated seventh edition, 1684. Separate title pages for each section. Original full calf binding, six raised bands to spine, embossed decorative border to boards and motifs to spine. Engraved frontispiece, engraved title page with double ruled red border. Numerous engravings throughout, full page and double page. Book is inscribed to fep and facing printed title page by Richard Geffcoat 18[2]4 and 1831. Three manuscript pages loosely inserted which appears to be from the 1800s, containing a detailed description of this book and ending with the words: 'Please return this id you do not purchase the book in the stamped addressed envelope now enclosed.' Previous owner of the book believed this was in the hand of Geffcoat. The book is in need of restoration to the binding, with both boards near detached, lifting to portions of the leather, and some loss to spine edges. Internally there is some soiling, a few marks, toning to the edges, and some splits/minor chipping. On the whole the contents are clean and in good condition. The text block is sound and the pages are complete. The binding would benefit from restoration, being original and near-complete which is seldom seen. Overall fair condition, but a scarce and collectable book.
