The World Displayed; Or, a Curious Collection of Voyages and Travels, Selected from the Writers of All Nations
Ref. 112825 Edition. Sixth Edition, Corrected
Illustrated By: J. Lodge
Published By: James Williams 1779 (Dublin)
Tenth volume. Wonderful copperplate illustrations throughout by J. Lodge. 1779 edition custom-bound in tan leather with lovely bright gilt embossing to front board and spine, which features five raised bands. Ink inscription to title page - 'James Bernard March 1795'. Leather to hinge of the front board is cracked and ffep is loose - otherwise, binding is still very tight and text block is intact. Minor chipping to lower corners of boards, though the leather is well preserved and features a lovely patina. Discolouration and water marks to edges, pastedown, feps, and first few pages, though main body of text is less affected. Tear and considerate damp damage to back papers. Features previous owners' coat of arms bookplate on front pastedown - 'Viscount Bernard'. Overall, a handsome little edition in good condition for age.
