Maxim Litvinov, one of the Old Guard of the Communist Party, was in effective control of Soviet Foreign Affairs from 1926 onwards. This book consists of notes said to have been dictated by Litvinov, detailing foreign policy, Soviet-German relations, Soviet policy in the Far East, and his portrait of Stalin - all written in a uniquely personal way. Original paper dust cover shows small tears to both panel's corners and spine, with marking commensurate with age and material. Fading to spine. Underneath lie bright crimson clothbound boards in nice condition with no shelf wear and gold gilt titling to spine. Spine slightly marked. Internally pristine with no foxing or marking. Ffep shows a gorgeous bookplate featuring a reproduction of a Thomas Bewick woodcut, with previous owner's name inscription below.
