Book 6 'The Heart of Christ in Heaven' (p. 140). Published 1643. Original boards in full calf with lovely blind-tooled decoration to front and rear. Spine with five raised bands. Bfep possibly missing. Small ink inscriptions within, centred to latter half. Decorative initials throughout. Inscriptions to ffeps. Print bright and clear throughout - naturally timeworn but without major damage and no foxing. Internal hinges are cracked, but boards themselves are almost completely intact aside from one point of loss to head of spine. Features embroidered Coventry Cathedral bookmark. Author Thomas Goodwin (b.1600 (Norfolk) -1680) was an English divine of the later Puritan period. A fellow of Cambridge and a lecturer of Trinity Church. Left for Holland after being harassed by the Bishop, though later returned to London and rose to considerable eminence as a preacher.
