Ref. 114346   Edition. Signed First Edition

Published By: Alfred A. Knopf 1984 (New York)

SIGNED FIRST EDITION. A volume known for being the basis for the 1987 George Miller film with Jack Nicholson, Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer. A limited issue of 350 numbered copies were printed on special paper and specially bound and signed by Updike on the limitation page; this is copy no. 20. Fine copy in lovely dove grey pictorial slipcase (featuring illustration taken from the works of Albrecht Durer) with only fault being subtle marking to upper half (please see images). The book itself has quarter-cloth and paper-covered boards covered by a removable acetate dustjacket for preservation. It is in fine condition; vivid printing to boards, clean cloth bind, bright and clean gilt to spine. The internals are perfect as expected, with dove grey endpapers matching slipcase and Updike's signature in red ink underneath the numbering. Overall, a rich, rare, and pristine copy.
