The Haworth Edition. Volume V including 'Wuthering Heights' and 'Agnes Grey', from the collection 'The Life and Works of Charlotte Bronte and Her Sisters with Introductions to the Works by Mrs Humphry Ward and An Introduction and Notes to the Life by Clement K. Shorter in Seven Volumes with Portraits and Illustrations'. A lovely copy of a classic bound in white cloth and quarter green leather.
Condition is as follows.
Corners bowed with chips to top. Slight discolouration to white cloth of binding due to general handling. Fine blind tooling detail to edges of leather binding. Spine with lovely condition to head and tail without damage, featuring five raised bands, blind tooling, and gilt titling with additional floral motifs. Top edge gilt. Spine faded to a uniform and presentable olive green as opposed to the original grass green colour. Beautiful marbled teal and gold pastedowns and endpapers to front and rear, with a highly decorative pictorial bookplate including the name 'Bertha Cecilia Chaplin'. Small inscription to verso of half-title dated 1905. Frontispiece portrait of Emily Bronte with original tissue guard. Various biographical images within. Internally pristine.
