First edition. Scarce. Green clothbound boards faded although gilt titles and decoration remain striking and bright. Small marks to the bottom of the front as well as wear to the extremities including scuffed corners. Spine has creases and both top and bottom are a little ripped. A few minor marks to the rear. Textblock rather ragged. A little tanning and foxing to the endpapers. Pages otherwise remarkably bright and clean with occasional foxing. Title page unopened at top. Beautiful full colour frontispiece and the dedication is decorated in an elaborate and tasteful rust-red border. Very large plates with stunning detail (51 pictures in monochrome, 1 in colour printed from copper-plates). Tissue guards. pp.xvii+132+plates. Overall good condition.
