Published By: Macmillan London Limited 1975 (London)

'This is a whodunnit in the purest classical mould.'  The first of 13 novels in Dexter's Inspector Morse series - this being Morse's very first appearance! Price unclipped. Signed to title page. Also features a handwritten letter by Colin Dexter himself that reads:

'Don't be too hard on the 'cheap papers'! The blotting-paper pages of your copy are the absolute guarantee among book-dealers that it's an original printing. And don't be too hard on Lincolnshire either! I'll have you know I'm a yellow-belly myself.
Colin Dexter'

Original dust jacket protected with removable transparent slip. Slight scuffing to dustjacket edges with chipping and very small amount of scratching to back cover. Underneath lie rust brown clothbound boards with black ink titling to spine. Marking to top of rear board. Internally unspoiled with no damage or markings, despite uniform tanning throughout. Overall, this is a very nicely kept edition with only very minor cosmetic flaws.
