Together with a glossary, by a student of the same college, To the whole is prefixed, the author's life, newly written and a preface giving an account of this edition. Bound in full tan leather which is a little worn although in keeping with the age of the book. The front board is a little loose. Gilt ruled lines in between six raised bands and burgundy title band to the spine. All edges of the text block are coloured red although this has faded over time. Small bookplate to the front pastedown with small neat signature to the front free endpaper with the front free endpaper a little loose. Text double columned. Pages are remarkably clean throughout despite the occasional spot of foxing. Overall a good copy. First Urry Edition of Chaucer. John Urry was the first to use Roman instead of Gothic type and provides an enduring work of value to Chaucer scholars. He added three stories, The Cokes Tale Of Gamelyn, The Merchant's Second Tale and The Adventure of the Pardoner and Tapster at the Inn of Canterbury.
