Handsomely bound in full red leather with gilt-ruled borders to the front and rear and five raised bands, title band, and ornate gilt tooling to the spine. The leather is a little worn to the corners and the front outer hinge of the spine with minor discolouration to the front and rear boards. Despite this, the binding remains fairly clean and in good condition. All edges of the text block and endpapers are marbled. Previous owners' neat inscription dated 1873 to the verso of the front free endpaper. Pages are generally clean although there is the occasional spot of foxing especially to the prelims. Beautifully illustrated throughout. pp. x + 467. Overall a good copy.
