Bound in half-tan leather with paper covered boards, gilt titles, and decoration to the spines. The leather is a little rubbed and worn especially to the spines with some loss to the top and base and to the corners. The boards are a little toned in places although generally in good condition. The front boards are a little oose with the front board on volume II, partly detached. The pages are generally clean although toned with heavy foxing/toning to the rear of both volumes and foxing to the prelims to volume II. Illustrated with frontispiece portrait of the author.
