Published By: Edward Moxon (London)

Hardback. In five volumes, three volumes of The Prose Works Of Charles Lamb, published 1836, and two volumes of The Letters Of Charles Lamb, published 1837. Beautifully bound in half-red leather with marbled paper-covered boards. Gilt titles and floral detail in between five raised bands to the spines. In overall good clean condition and showing just minimal wear, there is a little bit of fading along the top edge of volumes I & III to The Prose Works and minor wear to the corners, but nothing serious. The top edge of the text block is gilt and still fairly bright while the fore edge remains free of any marks. Internally the bindings are tight. The endpapers are in a rich green marble matching the marbled boards and are free of any inscriptions or bookplates. Previous owner's neat signature and date 1852 to the top of the title page to volume I on Prose and to Letters. The pages are very clean throughout despite the odd spot of foxing although there is heavier foxing to the prelims to both volumes of The Letters. Engraved frontispiece plates to the Letters. Overall a lovely set which would make an ideal gift.
