First Edition Hardback. A two-volume set consisting of The Text and The Plates. The illustrated dustjackets are bright and clean and show very little wear although there is some sunning to the front cover of The Text. Not price clipped. Original deep blue cloth boards in excellent condition with bright gilt titles to the spines. All edges of the text block are a little toned although clean. Pale blue endpapers with no inscriptions or bookplates. Pages appear unread with no marks or foxing. Text pp. xxiii + 324. Plates pp. xxv + plates. Overall a very good set. This set is heavy and will incur extra shipping charges. Well over 1000 works are fully described and illustrated, 250 of them in colour, and fully a quarter previously unpublished. Virtually one half of the entries are dated, providing a solid basis on which the undated paintings and drawings can be assigned their place in a chronological framework. The fact that it has been possible to set out Constable's work in the order in which it was created makes it more possible than ever to understand his development.
