Ref. 117592   Edition. First Edition

Published By: William Blackwood And Sons 1841 (London)

First Edition Hardback. Handsomely bound in rich brown leather with gilt-ruled borders to the front and rear, red and green title bands between four raised bands to the spine. In very good condition with just a little discolouration to the boards and minor bumping to the corners. All edges of the text block and end-papers are marbled. Volume one has a little pencil notation to the prelims with a beautifully written list to the verso of the title page. The rest of the pages including volumes two and three are a little toned but in a lovely clean condition throughout. Volume I, pp. viii 403. Volume II, pp. 391. Volume III, pp. 429. Overall a very smart set. This is the first edition in book form following its publication in Blackwood's Magazine. Collated without the publisher's adverts or half-title pages. This novel although fictional was based on a real forgery case.
