Published By: Palmer And Edmunds 1875 (London)

First Edition Hardback. A fascinating four volume set on the history and architecture of the Churches of Derbyshire, illustrated by heliotype plates and numerous line drawings throughout the four volumes. Uniformly bound in rich burgundy cloth with embossed decoration to the boards and gilt titles to the spines. The first three volumes have been sympathetically re-backed with a little rubbing and wear to the cloth, the binding internally is tight, the fourth volume has a piece missing to the top of the spine and a little fraying to the base while internally the binding is a little loose. There is either a signature in pen or pencil to all four volumes to one of the prelims. The pages are slightly toned with the occasional spot of foxing however generally clean throughout. Overall an amazing set. The author John Charles Cox was an English cleric, activist and local historian.
