Emma 1st Edition in Three volumes, London: printed for John Murray. Three volumes. Vol. I. features a dedication to the Prince Regent; 322 pp. with no half titles. Vol. II. 351 pp. Vol. III. 363 pp. with a list of other titles published: "Lately were published by the author of Emma, 1. Sense & Sensibility Second Edition, 2. Pride & Prejudice Second Edition, 3. Mansfield Park.”
Bound in full sprinkled calf with double ruled gilt boards, red leather title bands in gilt, and green labels reading ‘AUSTEN’ with volume number. ‘LOND 1816’ to the bottom of the spines in gilt, with gilt inlay to the inside front and rear boards. Two thousand copies were printed of the first edition, with 1,248 sold by October 16th . Austen made a profit of £221.64 and gained a review of Emma from Sir Walter Scott, sent in on the 19th of January 1816. Published during Austen’s lifetime (Gilson A8
