First Edition Hardback. The deep brown cloth boards with bright gilt titles to the spine are in excellent condition with minimal wear and no fading The pictorial dustjacket is a little faded especially to the spine with light discolouration to the rear. there is a closed tear to the top left-hand corner of the front cover which has been repaired by tape to the underside. Internally there is a bookplate to the front free endpaper although the pages appear unread with no marks or foxing, profusely illustrated. pp. xv + 268. The largest unified series of ivory carvings preserved from the pre-Gothic Middle Ages, In relief they portray, scenes from the Old and New Testament.
