The Handbook of Heraldry
John E Cussans
Ref. 117773 Edition. First
Published By: John Camden Hotten 1869 (London)
A lavishly detailed handbook with highly decorative boards. The front shows a knight with heraldic insignia done in gilt and crimson, still very bright, and the spine has a leaping deer, also gilt. Particularly striking is the frontispiece which depicts the Black Prince in colour. In general pages are clean with occasional foxing and marks. 350 lovely illustrations and impressive 1910 bookplate to the front. Binding is fragile with the front free endpaper almost loose. Blue spots to the spine. Boards have a few tiny rips and wear to the edges. pp.348+original publisher ads. Overall good. A special 19th Century book.
