Ref. 117975   Edition. 1st Edition

Published By: John Murray 1868 (London)

The first edition, 1st impression of this book contains detailed information on the domestication of animals and plants. In Chapter XXVII, it also includes a description of Darwin's theory of heredity, which he called pangenesis. The catalogue is dated April 1867 in volume 1 and February in Vol. II. It comes in two volumes; Volume 1 consists of 411 pages plus a 32-page catalogue for John Murray, while Vol. II comprises 486 pages. Both volumes are bound in the original green cloth with black endpapers and some rubbing to the top and tails of the spine. They are illustrated throughout with many illustrations of animals. The corners of both volumes are a little bumped, but overall, it is a near very good set of this most important work by Darwin, which includes the first appearance of "survival of the fittest." There is some slight foxing and rubbing, but it is still a near very good set.
