First Edition copy of Charles Dicken's Martin Chuzzlewit. Considered his last picaresque novel and thought to be Charles Dickens favourite to write. Bound in half burgundy leather with burgundy cloth sides with five raised bands and black title band to the spine. The leather is a little rubbed and worn with fading to the spine, the title band has become slightly detached. The text block is quite firm. A small plain label has been firmly pasted onto the front paste down with the name of the book and date written in pencil. The pages are quite clean with only the occasional spot of foxing, although quite heavy to the half title page and frontispiece and to the plate margins. The illustrations are by Phiz. pp. xiv + 624. Overall a good copy.
