Hardback. 1853, Ninth Edition of Macaulay's best known work. This set of five volumes is handsomely bound in half tan leather with marble paper covered sides. The spines have five raised bands, gilt tooling and two black title bands. All edges and endpapers are marbled. The set is in very good condition with just a little rubbing and wear to the leather and slight surface wear to the boards. There has been slight repair to the marble paper on volume IV. Each front paste down has a previous owner's bookplate. Pencil noation to the verso of the front free endpaper to volume I. The pages are generally very clean despite foxing to the prelims and towards the rear. Vol I, pp. xii + 684. Vol, II, pp. xi + 680. Vol, III, pp. xi + 764. Vol IV, pp. xii + 836. Vol, V, pp. viii + 398. Overall an attractive set ideal adornment for any bookshelf.
