The History of Imbanking and Draining of Divers, Fens and Marshes

William Dugdale

Edition: Second Edition, Revised and Corrected

Published By: W. Bower and J. Nichols

The History of Imbanking and Draining of Divers, Fens and Marshes, both in Foreign Parts and in this Kingdom , And of the Improvements thereby. Extracted from Records, Manuscripts, and other Authentic Testimonies. This second edition copy from 1772 is beautifully bound in its original full tan calf leather. The intricate gilt decoration to the spine has survived, and sits between the 6 raised bands, though sadly the leather title band is missing. Inside the book, after the loose front free endpaper, one finds a detailed and intricate account of this seminal process, including 11 beautifully illustrated and accurate pull-out maps. This edition contains 469 pages of text, and apart from some minor foxing throughout the book, this work is in great condition despite its age. Due to the fact that the board is starting, and that there is some weakness to the hinges, the book is in need of restoration in the near future. This is a lovely edition, and a glimpse into an important part of England's history, which would be suitable for any lovers of natural history or geography enthusiasts.
