Hardback. A good first edition copy. Handsomely bound in navy cloth with bevelled edges and gilt pictorial and titles to the front and spine. The cloth has faded although shows very little wear. Internally some of the pages have been reinforced with white strips of paper along the internal hinges. The text is in German and the pages are very clean, illustrated throughout with several black and white as well as coloured photographic images. pp. 291. In 1910 an expedition sponsored by Norddeutsche Lloyd and others sailed to Spitsbergen to investigate the possibility of using Graf von Zeppelin's rigid airship for polar exploration and research. Much research was done and although Zeppelin approved the expedition himself, no such journey was ever undertaken. A stunning record of the expedition.
