This lovely hardback 1938 first edition of "Biggles Flies South" by Captain W. E. Johns is bound in blue cloth with black ink lettering and illustrations, including a charming image of a plane flying over pyramids on the cover. Inside, one finds 255 pages of text supplemented with full page black ink illustrations and a full-colour frontispiece, "Biggles flung the joystick over as a great sombre mass loomed suddenly in front". This book, in which Biggles, Algy, and Ginger get sidetracked en route to a squadron reunion in South Africa, is in fair condition. The covers are bumped and worn, there is a lean to the spine, there is an inscription on the free endpapers, and there is significant foxing throughout the book. However, this damage is more than fair for a book that is almost 100 years old, and particularly one of this rarity. This book is looking for a new home, and would make for a lovely gift for any Biggles enthusiasts.
