Hardback. New Edition. Complete with the original dust jacket. Beautifully illustrated with several monotone engravings with publisher's advert to the rear. Underneath the dust jacket lie turquoise cloth boards with striking pictorial in orange and black to the front. Gilt titles and vignette to the spine. All edges are gilt. The dust jacket which is rare to find, displays some discolouration, possibly caused by damp, with small pieces missing to the extremities. There is a little discolouration to the binding extremities, again possibly caused by damp, although overall it remains bright and clean. The pages are clean despite the very occasional spot of foxing. The frontispiece illustration is complete with the tissue guard. pp. x + 142 + 2. Overall a good copy. Dr Hartwig was a nineteenth century naturalist and science writer known for popularising natural history through beautifully illustrated books.
