Hardback. A beautiful two volume set bound in full speckled leather with two title bands and gilt lettering and decoration to the spines. All edges are marbled with marbled endpapers. Beautifully illustrated frontispiece to both volumes with the occasional chapter vignette and several engraved plates throughout including a foldng diagram to volume one. The leather is a little worn to the extremities, as expected for its age, although presenting well. The spines are a little faded. Pencil notation to the prelims of both volumes, more so to volume one. The pages are lightly toned with the occasional spot of foxing, although generally very clean. The text blocks are tight within the binding. Volume I. pp. prelim + frontispiece + xl + 299 + 7 + 9 engraved plates, plate 5 is the frontispiece. Volume II, 5 engraved plates, including frontispiece, pp. prelim + frontispiece, + title page + 366 + errata + blank page. The first comprehensive account of balloon flight including the first flight in Versailles by the Montgolfier brothers. French Text.
