This lovely 1877 first edition of John S. Keltie's "Adventures in the Air. Being Memorable Experiences of Great Aeronauts", a translated and revised edition of Wilfrid de Fonvielle's french language work, "Aventures Aeriennes", is now in the possession of St Mary's Books. Bound in a rich green cloth wiht black ink and gold gilt illustrations of clouds and balloons on the cover and spine, this hardback book has i-xvi, 304pp., and 32 pages of contemporary advertisements to the rear. Peppered with 35 full page black ink illustrations, including the stunning frontispiece, "Night Scene from the "Nassau" Balloon", this book relays the exciting adventures of numerous pioneering aeronauts. This book is in very good condition, though the covers are slightly bumped, there is some offsetting and an inscription to the prelims and some splitting on the hinges, the book is otherwise remarkably clean and readable given its age and rarity, and would be the perfect addition to any collection.
