Hardback. A fascinating book on the Rolls-Royce Aero Engine, developed in 1915 at the request of the British Admiralty wanting a more powerful engine, with Sir Henry Royce designing the V-12 liquid fuelled engine. Developed for World War I requirements, with the first test run in February 1915. Known as The Rolls Royce Bible this book contains memoranda and letters written by Mr. F.H. Royce the engineeer in chief, in connection with the design and manufacture of these engines. It is lacking one leaf pp.199/200 as in all known copies, presumably removed as a result of a memo unfairly criticising a tool design. The book consists of an almost daily series of memos sent from F.H. Royce home in Kent to the works in Derby from 19th August 1914 to 4th March 1916. Mostly concerning conception and design of the V-2 Eagle Aero Engine. The number of copies produced is not known but it is thought to be few. Bound in original blue morocco with cloth sides and gilt lettering to the front and spine. The binding is a little rubbed and worn however still presents well. The pages are clean and the binding is firm. A remarkable, unique copy.
