Edition: First Edition

Published By: Printed by Baylis

Hardback. First Edition. Two volumes bound into one. Handsomely bound in full tan leather by Lucien Broca, signed with a small ink stamp to the top left hand corner of the first blank page. Few of Broca's bindings remain on the market, so this book is fairly uncommon. The binding remains in good condition despite a little rubbing and wear, light loss to the base of the front board. The spine is ornately decorated with gilt detail, the date 1798 to the base, and two red title bands lie between fiive raised bands. The top edge is gilt. Marbled endpapers with gilt dentelles. The front and rear blank pages are slightly foxed with pencil inscription to the rear. The rest of the pages are clean, despite the occasional toning, consistent with the age of the book.  Illustrated frontispiece with a plate between page 98 and 99 and facsimile letter to the rear. pp. 255 + 4. The Trial At Large Of Louis XVI Late King Of France pp. 124. Overall a very good copy. M. Clery was the valet to King Louis XVI, the King of France during the French Revolution and provides an invaluable insight into the Kings life during his confinement.
