St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1899 new edition of "The Flowering Plants, Grasses, Sedges & Ferns of Great Britain and their allies the Club Mosses, Horsetails, &c" By Anne Pratt in four volumes. Bound in quarter dark green leather with gold gilt lettering and bands on the spines, these hardback books form the set of Anne Pratt's magnum opus. Inside each volume, one finds beautiful and vibrant illustrations of local flora, tinted with a form of chromolithography. Alongside this, Pratt provides detailed and valuable descriptions of each plant - however, some of her more flowery language has sadly been removed from this "new edition", allowing it to be condensed from 6 volumes to 4. This four volume set is in good to very good condition. The binding on volume 1 is weakened, meaning some pages are beginning to come loose, and there is significant wearing on the leather spine of volume 2. Additionally, each volume has some foxing and there is some offsetting in volume 1 caused by pressed flowers. However, overall the copies remain clean and bright, remarkably so considering their age. "The Flowering Plants of Great Britain" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any natural historian or lover of beautiful illustrations.
