Hardback. A scarce copy of Wilfred De Fonvielle's L'Espion Aerien, with French Text. Bound in a presentation binding from Ecole Monge, a prestigious private secular school in Paris that existed during the late 19th Century. This copy is in good condition despite a few loose pages to the rear and cracking to the rear internal hinge. The pages are all present and correct, all in good condition despite a little foxing and a small piece missing to page 97. Ink stamps to the half-title, author's list and title page. There is an illustrated title page, however the rest of the plates are missing. Marbled end-papers with a little loss along the internal hinges. Handsomely bound in half burgundy leather with marble paper covered sides. Gilt tooling and titles lie between five raised bands to the spine. The binding is a little worn, as expected with the age of the book. Overall though, a good copy. pp. 276. The story is set during the Siege of Paris 1870-1871 and gives a fictionalised account of the real world "ballon monte" service, which was the only way for Parisians to communicate with the outside world after Prussian forces surrounded the city. A scarce copy.
