The Story Of 609 Squadron Under The White Rose

Frank Ziegler

Edition: First Edition

Published By: Macdonald

This 1971 First Edition book provides a detailed and personal look at one of the most distinguished auxiliary squadrons of the Second World War. Frank Ziegler draws heavily from his own experiences and the squadron's official diaries to create a narrative that focuses on the people, both the pilots and the crew, rather than combat reports. This copy has been signed, most notably By Sir Harald Peake, who was the 609's first commanding officer, back in 1936, Darky Handson, who features in this book, Edmund Dougie Bell, a World War II pilot, Jack Lister, J.W. Barlowe, post war pilot, A.R. Edge, J.H. Sager, Canadian Squadron Leader and A.K. Allen, the rest are members of the ground crew, to the front free endpaper. The dust jacket is unclipped, however worn to the extremities. There are the remains of a small sticker to the front. Underneath lie navy cloth boards which, despite a little bumping are in very good condition. The pages within are clean and illustrated with several black and white photographic plates. pp. 352. A lovely addition to any aviation collection.
