Edition: Fifteenth Edition
Illustrated By: Philip Miller

St Mary's Books is proud to present this incredibly well preserved 1796 fifteenth edition of Philip Miller's, "The Gardeners Kalendar; Directing what Works are necessary to be performed every month in the Kitchen, Fruit, and Pleasure-Gardens, as also in the Conservatory and Nursery". Bound in speckled tan leather with five raised bands on the spine and a gold gilt border on the cover, this hardback book contains i-lxvi, 382pp. and 23 pages of indices to the back of the book. Within the pages of this book, the reader is treated to a fascinating and informative contemporary account containing practical monthly instructions for the care of various types and species of plant. Complete with stunning pull-out black ink illustrations of the plants, this text, intended for use by "modest" gardeners, was one of the most popular and influential 18th century British gardening books. This copy is in very good condition - the interior pages are remarkably bright, clean, and readable, with few notable blemishes or imperfections. Though there is an inscription on the front free endpaper and title page, the text remains otherwise untouched. The front board is warped and there is some weakness to the spine as well as some slight bumping to the edges - but the exterior remains otherwise well-preserved. "The Gardeners Kalendar" is looking for a new home where it will be similarly cared for and appreciated.
