The Living Plant in Leaf, Flower, and Fruit

Alfred Ernest Knight and Edward Step

Illustrated By: Alfred Ernest Knight and Sir Harry Johnston

Published By: Hutchinson & Co.

This lovely hardback 1905 edition of "The Living Plant in Leaf, Flower, and Fruit: A Popular Book on Botany for the General Reader" by Alfred Ernest Knight and Edward Step is bound in green cloth with all-edge gilt, bright gold gilt lettering, and intricate blind tooling encircling the title on the cover and mimicking the appearance of vines. Inside, one finds i-viii and 420 pages of text, peppered with A. E. Knight's intricate black ink illustrations, his more detailed full-page botanical artworks, and some contemporary black and white photographs. The stunning full-colour frontispiece of "Ragwort", from a painting by Sir Harry Johnston, sets the tone for this fascinating book which is at once a feast for the eyes and the mind. This copy is in very good condition - though there is some slight bumping to the edges, some yellowing and inscriptions to the free endpaper, and some sligth splitting at the hinges - this copy remains otherwise remarkably clean and readable given its age and rarity. "The Living Plant" is looking for a new home where it will be similarly enjoyed and appreciated.
