Lucy Houston D.B.E. "One Of The Few"

Warner Allen

Edition: First Edition

Published By: Constable

A 1947 First Edition copy. This book chronicles the life of Dame Lucy Houston, an eccentric but patriotic British society figure. This is Warner Allens' tribute to her critical financial support to aircraft designer R.J. Mitchell's Seaplane, which won the 1931 Schneider Trophy. This financial support is credited with the development of the Supermarine Spitfire, the aircraft that eventually won The Battle Of Britain. This copy is complete with its' dust jacket which is in good condition despite some edge wear. The blue cloth boards are bright and clean and show only a little bumping to the corners. There is a light lean to the spine. The pages are very clean despite the very occasional spot of foxing. pp. 173. Overall a good copy, a must for any aviation enthusiast.
