St Mary's Books are proud to present this 1893 first edition of "Aeronautics: An Abridgment of Aeronautical Specifications filed at the Patent Office from A.D. 1815 to A.D. 1891" by Griffith Brewer and Patrick Y. Alexander.This particular copy, which once formed part of the personal collection of the "Rolls" in Rolls-Royce, Charles Stewart Rolls, was therefore read by a pioneering aviator and businessman. In addition, this copy contains a 1906 inscription by one of the authors, Griffith Brewer, in which he dedicates his copy to a friend. Bound in bright blue faux leather with gold gilt lettering and a charming gilt illustration of a parachuter, this hardback book contains i-vi and 160 pages of text followed by space for aeronautical notes at the back of the book. Interestingly, this copy is accompanied by the small slip of paper that was used to advertise it. Within the pages of this book, the reader is treated to a history of early of aviation through the patents that various engineers, aviators, and businessmen applied for in their various attempts to create a working flying-machine. These descriptions are accompanied by over sixty charming woodcuts illustrating the various inventions. This fascinating book is in very good condition, with few notable blemishes or imperfections other than some very minor bumping to the edges, the interior remains bright, clean and readable. "Aeronautics" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any aviation collector.
