Call To The Winds Signed

Call To The Winds published in 1939 is an autobiographical memoir by pioneering Australian aviator Sir Patrick Gordon Taylor. The book recounts Taylor's legendary experience during the aborted May 1935 trans-Tasman airmail flight aboard Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's famous aircraft, the Southern Cross. Mid-flight between Australia and New Zealand, a piece of the starboard propeller broke off, knocking out the engine. Taylor heroically stepped out of the cockpit, climbed along the open wings struts, six separate times, to manually transfer oil from the disabled engine's tank to the operating port engine. This copy is bound in green cloth with titles in silver to the front and spine. Inside there is a small brown piece of paper attached to the front free end-paper with the writing; "From P.G.Taylor, 141 York St, Sydney, Australia". Together with an inscription to the title page, "To C.G. Grey from Bill Taylor" and a hand written note inserted to the front of page one, noting of an alteration that couldn't be included in the book, there is also a handwRitten note to one of the plates. Overall a very good copy with just minimal wear to the binding and a scattering of foxing throughout. pp. xii + 227. A scarce copy with the signatures and a must for any aviation enthusiast
